EducationCompleted a Bachelors with Honours in Mechanical with Aeronautical Engineering at Glasgow. Going on to do a postgraduate in Secondary teaching in Physics & Maths at Strathclyde.
I graduated Hillpark Secondary School with an A in Advanced Higher physics along with A's in Higher Physics, Mathematics, Accounts & Finance and Administration. Also received B's in Higher English, Business Management and Religious Moral and Philosophical Studies.
ExperienceExperience in teaching Higher & National 5 Physics and Maths. Going on to study a Post-graduate teaching qualification in Physics, having completed a Mechanical Engineering degree at Glasgow.
Having gone through secondary school myself, I understand how difficult it is to balance multiple subjects. Finding accomplishment and joy in tutoring school pupils, alongside a desire to share my own enthusiasm for physics continues to motivate me to find new students. Discovering that physics can explain the world around us led me to understand the importance of the subject. From everyday occurrences such as light refracting and causing rainbows to intricate developments within the universe, physics has relevance in everything we do. Passing this on to others is something I take great pride in.
I can make a positive impact on the level of engagement and achievement of my students by differentiating my lessons for the needs of each student. I find that a personable approach allows for mutual respect to develop .Using this approach, I find that learners who have trouble engaging with the course material or are struggling to understand the key areas grow in confidence and develop a deeper understanding. I believe that my ability to adapt lesson plans to meet specific learning requirements will benefit those I tutor.
At the University of Glasgow I worked as a student ambassador. In this role, I gave presentations to school students. Being in charge of a classroom environment taught me to encourage people to speak up and express their own opinions to a group of their peers. I found tactful ways to dispel disagreements, demonstrated that everyone's opinion is valid and encouraged inclusive contribution. I used appropriate humour to connect with students allowing me to manage and engage with the group on a much more personal level whilst keeping them focused on the task. . Applying the knowledge and skills I have gained from this experience, I can help you or your child with understanding the subject matter.
Finding the right tutor is difficult with so many to choose from. I have loved tutoring so much so that it has changed my career path from becoming an engineer to becoming a secondary Physics teacher. I am truly passionate both about physics and educating. Starting my course in August means I will be a rare position to pass on any new information regarding the updated Higher and National 5 curriculum and I will be best trained to teach it.
HobbiesHaving always had a passion for Physics, Mathematics and basically anything science related at school, my interests tend to reflect that. I actively enjoy reading books, particularly those in the science fiction or fantasy genres.
In my spare time, I also build computers which is something I've loved doing since building my own a few years ago.
Before coming across as too much of a shut in, I enjoy going snowboarding and am currently training to run a marathon.
